Whine whine rant rant Weight Watchers
“Women with PCOS have different metabolisms, and it’s just not fair. I know you’re eating well and exercising a lot, but if weight loss is important to you, you will have to do even more, and it’s just not fair.”
{ snip }When a doctor essentially said to me, “This happens because of cysts on your ovaries, not because you are lazy, and it’s not fair.” I felt, for the first time, like someone I medically respect was on my side. Maybe this will be the tiny swing I need to get the pendulum going the other way, away from self-loathing.
You know, that and hours and hours of therapy.
I’m a huge advocate of people feeling comfortable in their own skin. My wife has PCOS and has suffered with it for most of her adult life. I’ve seen her suffer and it’s really awful. I’ve honestly never been so attracted to another person, yet I’m unable to help her see how beautiful she is to me.
So who’s to blame? Do we call out society here? Magazines? Doctors? Family? What? If there is to be change, I think Annie has it right. It has to come from within.
Annie, I wish we could come to the SF meetup just so my wife and I could give you a big freaking hug.
