On college students:
(For the record, I once was sick in a class during a test. The professor wouldn’t believe me because he was such a hard ass — until I threw up ON the test. At which point he told me to get a doctor’s note and come back with it, then I could take a make up exam. He was the most unforgiving, unbending professor who expected more out of his students than anyone else and wouldn’t hesitate to fail people. I learned more in his class than any other, and I didn’t skip. I also got an A.)
For my senior audio production final, we were to mix a track from scratch. Everything had to be perfectly nailed down. Because the exam was so demanding, the professor had offered to be around for advice and assistance should anyone want his opinion.
I was in the studio for 18 hours straight and was suffering from some pretty nasty exhaustion. When I asked if he’d mind listening through my track. He flat out refused.
My good friend who took the course with me told me later that the same professor had sat down with him and helped him fine-tune his track in the studio.
I didn’t learn any more for having such a jerk of a professor. I think that’s my point - there’s a huge difference between expecting a lot and just being a jerk wad.
